About the Founder

Rovini Illukkumbura grew up surrounded by the lush, tropical beauty of her homeland. From an early age, her father introduced her to the wonders of nature, taking her on excursions to rivers and waterfalls, fostering a deep love for the natural world and island life.

Rovini's passion for water led her to excel in aquatic sports. She became a competitive swimmer, eventually reaching international heights in synchronized swimming. Her dedication to creativity shone through once her competitive era ended, as she transitioned into coaching synchronized swimming at her alma mater, elevating school performances to new heights.

Simultaneously, Rovini was building a successful career in marketing with major companies like Unilever, Samsung, and later The Kraft Heinz Company. These experiences honed her skills in brand building, providing her with a deep understanding of the intricate art and science behind creating enduring brands.

In 2017, Rovini launched Islander, a brand that embodies her love for nature and water, offering a platform to unleash her creativity. Islander was the first brand in Sri Lanka to introduce flavored water, and it has since expanded to offer water in glass bottles, promoting sustainability within the industry. This innovation reflects Rovini’s commitment to combining her passions for nature, water, and creativity.

Islander continues to grow, with plans for further expansion that will build on its existing strengths. Rovini envisions venturing into various other industries, driving her overall mission to blend nature, creativity, and a celebration of life.
